A SHORT HISTORY OF QUEER WOMEN: a title sequence

At the beginning of this year I was interested into finding out more about queer lifestyles that women led in the past, and I came across this book that I ended up reading. A Short History of Queer Women is a witty, concise exploration of queer women's overlooked histories. Some of the queer relationships mentioned were secret, other ones just erased from history. As a personal project, I reimagined this book as a potential documentary movie, hereby designing an adequate title sequence.

The inspiration for this concept comes from the erasure that these stories have been through. The design is lead by images of queer women that are hidden by color blocks that move to reveal the presence of these subjects. To represent historical censorship, smaller rectangles are placed on eyes and mouths of the female figures. The color palette leans towards pink and red, with blue and yellow as support colors. This combination is inspired by passion and strong emotions that target the adult audience of the book. The music track is raw, bold, and female.

The people mentioned in the title sequence are used solely for illustrative purposes.
