A SHORT HISTORY OF QUEER WOMEN: a title sequence
At the beginning of this year, I became interested in learning more about the queer lives of women in the past and came across A Short History of Queer Women, which I went on to read. The book offers a witty and concise exploration of often-overlooked histories, highlighting relationships that were either hidden or erased altogether.
As a personal project, I reimagined the book as a documentary film and designed a corresponding title sequence.
The concept draws from the idea of erasure these stories have endured. The design features images of queer women partially obscured by moving color blocks that gradually reveal their presence. To reference historical censorship, smaller rectangles cover the eyes and mouths of the figures. The color palette centers on evoking passion and intensity aligned with the book’s adult audience.
The individuals depicted in the title sequence are used solely for illustrative purposes.
